Cathy Ayers

Partner
Hertfordshire

Cathy works mainly with UK-based medium-sized organisations, helping them achieve cost-effective trade mark and design protection across the world and assisting them in robustly defending their rights in the face of competitors.

Cathy graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Natural Sciences (specialising in Chemistry) in 1990 and has worked in the Intellectual Property field since that time. She became a qualified Member of what is now the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys by examination in 1994. Cathy subsequently obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in European Competition Law from King’s College London and, more recently, a Postgraduate Certificate and LLM in Intellectual Property Litigation from Nottingham Trent University. As a result, Cathy has a particular interest in contentious matters and dispute resolution.

Cathy joined the firm in 2007 and when Scott & York merged with Cleveland in 2017, she became a partner in Cleveland Scott York. She has achieved many favourable settlements for her clients in trade mark oppositions and other disputes involving brands. Over the 25+ years she has been practising, she has seen countless examples of where solid brand protection has been vital in helping companies grow and develop and feels privileged to be part of that process.

Cathy has lectured for CITMA and commercial conference and webinar providers on the subject of trade marks and greatly enjoys training and mentoring those in the training stages of their careers.
